Random notes from “Zen Mountain”

> Devent (1)

A peculiar thing happened today. I couldn’t remember what comes after nine. One…two…three…four…five…six…seven…eight…nine…and then? I set off to ask a colleague what her thoughts were on this matter. She, too, had forgotten. During our lunch break, we asked the supervisor, but he had no clue either.

I left work at 6 pm. On the bus home, I sat beside a bespectacled elderly person. Looked like the intellectual type, so I queried her about the number mystery, but to no avail.

At home, I opened a can of beans and watched the news. The entire country was in disarray because of the what-comes-after-nine conundrum. They had a panel on, including a renowned professor of mathematics. The host asked him: So, what comes after nine? The savant said that it was very likely 11, but they still needed to do more research and were hoping for substantial government grants.

The Committee sought information from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as to whether members of the Inquiry Committee were asked to file Conflict of Interest declarations. In response, the Ministry replied: “No written Conflict of Interest declarations were sought from the core members of the Inquiry Committee. It is understood that if there is any conflict, the esteemed and highly learned members will point it out.”
